Lacy Parasol
Code Name: FRIstravenpin
In the summer of 2004-05 Rosa Strawberry Ice was introduced to Rosa Lavender Pinocchio by Mary Frick. After a short love affair Strawberry Ice became pregnant and gave birth to quite a large number of seeds which were carefully nurtured in the refrigerator for the next few months. In the winter of 2005 Mary removed the seeds from the cold, dark refridgerator to be planted in nice new seed raising mix ready for the sunshine to make them grow.
When the little babies flowered later that spring, one out-shone the rest of the litter. She became Lacy Parasol. The bloom is a lovely clear pink with cream at the base and lighter reverse of the 35 frilly petals which unfurl to a lightly cupped formation to reveal red stamens that come mostly in clusters. The fragrance is deliciously sweet & spicy.
The bush that grows approximately 1.2 metres high (although it has a slightly spreading habit) has foliage that goes to the ground and becomes leathery as it ages. The average number of prickles are large, red and slightly hooked. Lacy Parasol has great disease resistance.
Lacy Parasol’s parentage line is impressive with the fragrance being passed on from her Great Grandparent, Crimson Glory.
Lady Parasol will be available at the 2011 show, if you are interested please contact us -committee@barossaroseshow.com.au
